It’s a DUOL!

Welcome to the Schmoozeletter Blog. Your source for weekly water cooler wisecracks from the world of finance. If you have an opinion different than mine or a topic you want to hear about, let me know!

This week, we’re talking about:

It’s a DUOL!

En garde!

We’ve got our first-ever Schmoozeletter duel!

It’s a duel about DUOL.

A DUOL duel.

(Bruce Buffer voice)

Fighter number one:

Finance YouTubing out of California, USA…

With 492k subscribers and 447 videos…

Amassing over 41M views on his main channel…

He’s never saw a subscription business he didn’t like…

It’s…

The Qualtrim King

Jooooooooooooooseph Carlson

Fighter number two:

Finance YouTubing out of maybe Ohio or somewhere like that. I don’t remember, but I think it was in the Midwest, I want to say, USA…

With 458k subscribers and 143 videos…

Amassing over 26M views on his channel…

He’s rolled more calls than a basic training instructor…

It’s….

The Lunatic of LEAPS

InTheMoney Adaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam

What are these titans of the virtual finance space sparring over?

They be dueling over DUOL

The stock of the popular language learning app, Duolingo.

Joseph Carlson is long and likes the stock’s chance of rising in the future.

InTheMoney is short and thinks the stock’s going down in the future.

But you don’t have to take my word for it. I’ll let these fighters do what they do best:

Joseph posted his video on April 4th. He is long the common stock, and I can’t tell either fighter’s exact entries, but I think he is in at roughly $300 per share. He is betting the share price goes

Up.

InTheMoney posted his video on November 12th. He has, of course, an in-the-money long-dated put option from what looks like around $195 per share. He is betting the share price goes

Down.

So who is in the lead?

Right now it appears they’re both losing…

The stock is down from Joseph’s long entry and up from InTheMoney’s short option.

The put option doesn’t expire until January of 2028, so I am giving these fighters two years to see who wins our first-ever Schmoozeletter DUOL duel.

Mark your calendars for two years from now to find out the winner.

Who am I betting on?

I think our buddy Adam has fallen victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is, “Never get involved in a land war in Asia.” But only slightly less well known is this… "Never take a long term short position when Joey C is on the other side.”

If only there were a fighter with the gusto to combine the high-return strategy of InTheMoney with the qualitative analysis skills of Joseph Carlson. A fighter with a penchant for picking bottoms and the moxie to let it rip.

Who is winning this DUOL duel right now?

The Shaman of Schmooze.

Final Thought

Literally, the entire point of the independent Fed is not to be swayed by politicians on economic decisions.
